IG Metall Leader to Join VW Supervisory Board 🚗

Christiane Benner, head of Germany’s largest union, IG Metall, is set to join the Volkswagen Supervisory Board in January 2025, succeeding former union leader Jörg Hofmann. Benner, known for advocating a 7% wage increase for VW employees, stepped down from her candidacy for the BMW Supervisory Board to focus on this role.

As IG Metall Chairwoman since October 2023, Benner faces resistance from employers amid a difficult economic climate, with discussions around a 4-day work week and wage hikes continuing. “The economic situation is dire,” says industry leaders.
