In a major shake-up for Brazilian television, Boninho, one of Globo’s most influential directors, is set to leave the network at the end of 2024 after 40 years of shaping Brazilian entertainment. Known for his work as the “Big Boss” of Big Brother Brasil (BBB), Boninho has been a pioneer in bringing popular reality shows to the country. From No Limite to The Voice Brasil, SuperStar, and Mestre do Sabor, he has been instrumental in defining the genre of reality TV in Brazil.

Boninho’s departure comes as he transitions to new independent creative ventures, leaving behind a legacy of innovation. Rodrigo Dourado, who has been with Big Brother Brasil since its inception and served as its general director for a decade, will take over as the new Director of the Reality Genre at Globo. Dourado’s experience includes directing major shows like No Limite, The Voice Brasil, Fama, and Estrela da Casa. His promotion ensures that the future of Globo’s reality programming is in capable hands.

During this transition, Boninho will continue to oversee the final production of the Roberto Carlos Special and the current season of Estrela da Casa. Dourado will lead the preparations for the next season of Big Brother Brasil, set to air in January 2025. This marks the beginning of a new era for Globoโ€™s reality TV, with Dourado at the helm, while Boninho steps into a new chapter of his career as an independent creator.

Globo’s executive director, Amauri Soares, expressed his gratitude to Boninho for his decades of creativity and leadership, while also wishing Rodrigo Dourado success in his new role. Fans of Brazilian reality TV can expect a smooth transition and continued success under Dourado’s direction, with new projects on the horizon for both Boninho and the network.
