11 Secondary Tuberculosis Cases Confirmed at Tokyo Adachi Ward School, Authorities Assure No Further Spread 🏫🦠

On September 11, 2024, officials in Tokyo’s Adachi Ward confirmed that 11 individuals from a local middle school have tested positive for secondary tuberculosis infection. This comes after a student was diagnosed with infectious tuberculosis in July. Following health checks conducted on 111 close contacts, two individuals showed symptoms while nine others were infected but have not developed the disease. Authorities have reassured the public that none of the secondary infections are currently contagious, and there is no immediate risk of further spread. The school will continue regular operations, though a second round of blood tests may be conducted as necessary due to the potential for delayed positive results, typically occurring two months after infection.
